a) I finally pulled together and submitted another RP sample for Nia, this one taking place exclusively inside her head. Since I know I have other Nia and Simon/Nia fans on my friendslist, I will share it here, just so it's not entirely useless even if she gets rejected. ( Snipped for spam. )

I hate the way fandom is so determined to mangle the themes of Gurren Lagann into "if you just try your hardest, anything is possible! ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWAH!" when really they're so much more interesting. And Simon/Nia exemplifies them so beautifully. ♥

b) I found a torrent of Zsazsa Zaturnnah: Ze Moveeh. It's a hilarious, bizarre, and heartwarming story of a troubled gay hairdresser who moves away from his home in Manila to escape his broken heart, falls in love again, and...swallows a rock from outer space and becomes the badass, busty superheroine Zsazsa Zaturnnah, who then proceeds to fight giant frogs, zombies (who keep trying to tear her love interest's clothing off), and man-hating "Amazonistas" from Planet XXX. Yes, the completely random out-of-nowhere song numbers and terrible, terrible special effects are all part of the fun.

Okay, so, as far as I can tell, my computer is shot. My father is still working on it, but let's be real here: he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. I'm not really happy with how my parents are handling this, but they're not happy with how I'm handling it, so I guess we're even. No use angsting over it; my father's told me that if he can't fix this computer, he'll get me a new one and just hook my hard drive into that. I'm grateful.

Right now, however, I'm going to try to distract myself (on my mother's clunky, poorly-interfaced computer...sob) with fandom and ideas.

And fair warning, you won't get much luck asking for Naruto fic right now.

I'm also facing an embarrassing little dilemma. I kind of accidentally...got a pretty compelling idea for an RP that blends MU*-style narrative and character development with LJ-style accessibility. I know I should be working on rosemush, but...nobody seems to actually want to play there. And this idea is so awesome kfjkf augh why. My brain always churns out more ideas than I can actually keep up with, the stupid thing. ;_; This idea involves Jungian ideas of the collective unconscious and the Shadow combined with mythic fantasy combined with mystery combined with epic anime. What. And it's totally designed for RP, so I can't adapt it into another format.

Watched "Zuko Alone" before work today. I know the whole point is that it's, well, Zuko alone, but I still could have done with some more Iroh.

Also, Toph is really awesome.

I have too many things to watch, write, read, do to focus on Avatar like this, but I'm not sure I have a choice anymore. I'll get back to Gurren Lagann soon, though, honest. And to icon-making--I want to finish that damn Cagalli claim soon, even if SEED fandom seems to be too dead to pay attention to it anymore. It's not even about the attention-whoring at this point, it's about getting it done.

Anyway, I started spinning this out at work as a draft on Gmail, and I got it about two-thirds done. Having finished the rest, here it is. Considering the wide gaps in my Avatar expertise so far, both fandom- and canon-wise, I'm sure someone else has written this idea before, and done it better at that. But I felt the need to write it, which makes me happy; it's more than I've written in some time.

1) I want to get back into fanfic writing. I actually want to work on original writing, but first I'd like to get back into the swing of things with some fic.

2) I want to have something to think on during work tomorrow.

So, I'm presenting one of my weird-ass fic prompt challenges. This time, I'm putting out two lists. One is the Major Arcana (explanation of their meanings is here); another is a set of song lyrics (generated by flipping randomly through my current set of fifty-two songs). You pick one from each (try to check the comments and pick ones that haven't already been picked, since I won't be able to check this to cross things off the list that often)--two in all. Then give me a character or relationship of any kind (group, platonic, romantic, whatever) and I'll do a ficbit. Or try to. I can't promise they'll all get done, but I'll do my best. So long as you don't ask for FMA or Code Geass; my brain blanks on the former and I won't do the latter. Anything else I'll at least give a try.

III. Now, the main reason I made this post: I actually got some fanfic done! Shut up, I'm justified in feeling a tiny bit accomplished; it's been forever since I've really written something, or at least it feels like it. Ugh, my creativity is so down. Especially when it comes to Naruto. But I managed to churn out another entry for my 30_kisses claim by way of a 31_days prompt.

Here at 30_kisses and here at 31_days. Tomorrow I will probably stick it up on jc_eastling, FF.net, and Ficwad, because I am a cross-archiving whore.

For the record, it's only nominally SasuSaku for the sake of having another entry at 30_kisses; it's mostly Sasuke-POV Team 7 gen. It's kind of weird; I've never really done this particular perspective on Sasuke before, and I fear I might be losing my touch. I'd rather be writing Suzaku/Euphemia.

IV. Aaaand now, what you've all been waiting for (or not): cat picture! A few cellphone pictures of my own kitties (sobsob I want a real camera back), some four-year-old-plus pictures I dug up of me with evilbeej's cat, and a handful of silly cat macros I made. ( Images! V. Speaking of Geass (the segue to that is under the previous cut. You will just have to click)...a new group, Your-Mom, has started subbing it. Apparently they pick up popular series with slow or unpopular fansubbers. I don't really appreciate picking on gg for being slow (although it does kind of annoy me that they seem to have stopped working on Geass altogether for the past several days, judging by the lack of change in the project status page), but their attitude bugs me enough that I like seeing them get knocked down a peg.

However, I'm kind of leery of watching the Your-Mom avis, because apparently they're really low-quality--bad translations, shitty encoding, and random pointless, distracting comments added on. Still, I'm desperate at this point. D:

...although oddly enough, I haven't even bothered watching the recap at this point. I suppose I should do that before getting into the new ones. For now, though, I'm going to go watch some Scrubs.

However, the main point of this edit is what the fuck, how did it take me until Chapter 9 of Academ's Fury to figure out what "Tavi" is short for? adfjsklfdsjkl.

So I've been thinking on various things I could write--including the next (short, for which my readers will slaughter me) chapter of "Spiral Out." But I'm feeling rather rusty about writing in general. So I decided I'd try to get into the mood with a fic prompt.

I like making up my own prompts (which kind of defeats the purpose, I guess, but whatever). I also got weirded out by hearing a Pogues song being used for a car commercial the other day (especially since it was a song with the lyric "with a heart full of hate and a lust for vomit." I mean, do you really want to associate that with your car?). So I figured I'd do Pogues lyrics for this set of prompts. I don't really have any other excuse. Um. St. Patrick's Day is in a few weeks? Does that count?

Anyway, this is pretty simple. Claim a prompt and give me a character, pairing, platonic relationship, or group from one of my fandoms. I'll write a tinyfic (I can't promise an exact drabble) for it.

And yes, I will now write Berserk fic based on anything up through volume 24.

I woke up today to the sorest arm I've had in ages. My shoulder is so stiff, oh god. I think Nintendo is trying to destroy the out-of-shape gamers that make up most of its customer base.

Anyway, this means that I'm going to avoid Wii Sports today and just mess around with Zelda. But ugh, the black fishthings in the area just after you first turn into a wolf are slaughtering me, since I can't seem to bite them while swimming. Bah.

Still waiting for Geass 14. *makes grabby hands at gg* But I am patient. Yes.

I could go make some more icons, but I don't feel like it. Later, I think I'll try to make enough icons to be able to start posting on iconfiend100. For now, though, have a meme.

For the record: I finally have settled on an Idea for my bleach_yurithon fic, and I will have to scramble to get it finished in the next week. I lose at life and fandom. I will probably still need someone to hash it out with on IM or something, though, because it is Complicated and I don't really have a very solid plot yet.

However, here is something that I will start doing once I have finished my bleach_yurithon fic (and possibly my Allen/Rinali essay for ship_manifesto as well). It is shamelessly stolen from wreeth, but I do not have awesome art skills (and I will beat wreeth with kofi's useless body if she denies her art skills are awesome), so it is less cool. But hey, maybe someone will get something out of it.

How it works is like this: you comment here with a fic idea you want me to write. Character, pairing, plus prompt or general idea. Alternately, you can pick a pre-conceived idea from here and ask that I write that. I'll let you know in comments if you've requested something that I just plain can't write, but I'll try to avoid that.

Once I have finished my bleach_yurithon fic, I'll shuffle up all your names and randomly pick one. Then I'll write at least one thousand words for the fic requested by that person. When I'm finished, I'll pick another person and write their fic. And so on, until the New Year.

Then I will go back to my usual schedule of procrastinating on all the fics I owe various people while I play video games, make icons, and roleplay. Hooray!

Uh. Onto (slightly) less pointless matters: I've decided to do another fic prompt meme. But this time, I'll be providing the prompts; you just pick one that hasn't been used yet and give me character, group, or pairing. I'll write a ficlet for it. You all know my fandoms, and if you don't, that's what this post is for. If this turns out to be more popular than I expect, I'll let two people pick one prompt, but until they're all used up? Pick one that hasn't been chosen yet.

As for the origin of the prompts--well, one of the ways I got through yesterday's service (despite being dazed from fatigue and sick from low blood sugar) was via looking at the siddur and thinking, "What passages here would make good fic prompts?" Yeah, I'm terrible like that. When I got home, I dug out my own home siddur (which isn't quite as detailed and eloquent as the Gates of Repentance prayerbook used for High Holy Days services at synagogue, but oh well) and a few online translations of important prayers, and I pulled lines from those sources.

I am home. I have escaped the pit of family angst for a while. I noticed that the latest episodes of House reairing were the two I hadn't seen, and I sat down to watch them. But when I got back up to my computer, I saw that I'd received some plaintive cries from a lost Archii in need of fic.

So. I've been meaning to write this as a part of my longer Rin/Archer fic, but I guess for now I'll whip it up here. I'll write more after I've a) finished the series b) gotten something out for my 30_kisses claim and c) worked on my IchiHime essay for ship_manifesto.

Why is it so damn hard to get a grip on these two characters? Especially Archer--his voice is impossible to find. And for some reason, I feel ill at ease with my usual writing style in this situation. I don't know--maybe I'm just rusty. But I kept being plagued by the images in the ficlet and I just had to get them out.

Should I get a beta for my fic?

I mean, I've gotten along so far without one, but it seems to be widely acknowledged as an irredeemably arrogant attitude in The World Of Fandom to go without a beta. And I know my fic isn't perfect, it's just that nobody ever seems to bother telling me how I can improve it.

For now, though, even though I have approximately a million (actually four) fic-things to write, I am focusing on setting up Rinoa on flegends. By which I mean I'm replaying FFVIII and occasionally taking a break to bitch about how I hate setup.

Give me a character, group, or pairing from any of my fandoms (preferably the ones I do a lot of writing in), plus a prompt (that is, a word or phrase) and I'll try writing a few lines of fic. Without getting sleep first! Let us see what I can churn out, and maybe it will prime me to do some Real Writing tomorrow (mainly the next chapter of "Spiral Out" and maybe a start on "A Revolution of a Year and a Day") once I have gotten some sleep.

Edit: Does anyone know where I can download the new Bleach ED? Not a youtube link, but the real deal. I need decent-quality screencaps, and I don't want to have to download an entire crappy filler to get them.

On the other hand, if I do go through with this embarrassing business of making a YoruSoi moodtheme, I'll have to download some of the fillers anyway.
