wooo musics post

Today was a bust. Nothing was accomplished, even though I got up at 10:30 in the morning. Well, there's always tomorrow, I guess.

A note: I did some rearranging of my friendslist. If you got cut, it's nothing personal; I just don't pay much attention to your LJ and haven't noticed you commenting on mine. If you actually have been reading quietly and would like to keep doing so, just let me know and I'll add you back.

Anyway, since I have nothing else to post, and sunsitenthai asked for a couple of these, I'm doing a music post now.

Not a Day Goes By [Mandy Patinkin]
Not a day goes by,
Not a blessed day,
But you somewhere come into my life,
And you don't go away.
And I have to say,
If you do, I'll die.

Not a Day Goes By [Bernadette Peters]
And no,
Not a day goes by,
Not a blessed day,
But you're still somehow part of my life,
And you won't go away.

"Not a Day Goes By" is one of Sondheim's more often-sung songs. The catch is that there are two versions of it from the show itself--one optimistic and romantic, the other angsty and passionate. Same (or very similar) melody, different lyrics.

Mandy sings the optimistic one; Bernadette sings the angsty one. They're both awesome.

Yuukyou Seishunka [Ali Project]
Shishite owaranu
Yume o kogaredomo
Tashika na kimi koso wagainochi.

Yes, it's the first ending theme for Code Geass. But I really like it as a song. It's got a sort of dark-fairy-tale feel to me.

The Adventure [Angels and Airwaves]
I wanna have the same last dream again,
The one where I wake up and I'm alive.
Just as the four walls close me within,
My eyes are opened up with pure sunlight.

I pimped this song out alone a while back, but I still like it and so I'm going to pimp it out again here. It makes me think of Athrun/Cagalli at the end of SEED.

Document [Assemblage 23]
And when my voice ceases to be,
Will the echo still ring loudly?
And when there's nothing left of me,
Will my memory still go on?

Yeah, yeah, I still like Assemblage 23, even if I don't listen to them much anymore.

The Dinosaur-Slipper-Man [Bel Canto]
The dinosaur-slipper-man does the very best he can
To make a living out if what he does.
He's selling dinosaur-slippers and dinosaur-ties.
He's got a dinosaur toothbrush.

This week's theme at seed_icontest is "song titles that make no sense." I couldn't figure out a way to use this title on an icon, but looking at it reminded me of how cool and weird the song is. So here you go.

I Kissed a Girl [Jill Sobule]
I kissed a girl, her lips were sweet.
She was just like kissing me.
I kissed a girl, won't change the world,
But I'm so glad I kissed a girl.

Obligatory silly cute lesbian song.

Shalott [Emilie Autumn]
She sits down to her colored thread,
She knows lovers waking up in their beds.
She says, "How long can I live this way
Is there no one I can pay to let me go?"

I told myself: no Emilie Autumn this time. You abuse her too much. But then I just fell in love with this song.

Sang pour Sang [Johnny Halliday]
Au-delà de nos différences,
A force d'échanger nos silences,
Maintenant qu'on est face à face,
On se ressemble sang pour sang.

This is a really gorgeous song about father-son relationships that I snagged from askerian a while back.

The House Wins [OK Go]
If evil were a lesser breed than justice after all these years
The righteous would have freed the world of sin.
The house wins.

Yeah, OK Go is the hip and trendy thing, but I still like this song.

Goodnight Moon [Shivaree]
What should I do? I'm just a little baby.
What if the lights go out and maybe
And then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door, he followed me home.

This was a Kill Bill song, but thanks to atrocity, I was into it before that. I recently remembered how awesome it was. You should hear how awesome it is, too. Sweet, creepy little song.

Winter Sleep [Olivia]
(lyrics not online yet)

Thanks go to lacus for getting me into Olivia. I don't love all her songs, but some are very pretty, and I particularly like this one.

And after my last (as yet unfinished, because I suck that way) fic prompt meme, I decided I'd share some of the awesome music of the Pogues.
You told me tales of love and glory,
Same old sad songs, same old story.
The sirens sing no lullaby,
And no one knows but Lorelei.

I feel totally uncool for liking this one so much, because it's not done by Shane McGowan, but I still adore it. So pretty and fairy-tale-ish.

Rake at the Gates of Hell
Mother's eyes are sparkling diamonds,
Still the moon shows no light.
As roses wither may God deliver
The rake at the gates of hell tonight.

This is about as close as one gets to John Constantine's official themesong. It is awesome and on crack.

A Rainy Night in Soho
Now the song is nearly over.
We may never find out what it means,
But there's a light I hold before me,
And you're the measure of my dreams.

A terribly pretty love song.

The Turkish Song of the Damned
I come old friend from hell tonight
Across the rotting sea.
Nor the nails of the Cross
Nor the blood of Christ
Can bring you help this eve.
The dead have come to
Claim a debt from thee.

I love this song way too much. It is both fun and scary at the same time. Win.

And that's it for tonight. Maybe I'll actually do something productive tomorrow.

Also, happy birthday to qara_isuke. Sorry I didn't get that fic done; I'll do some Lacus-centric fic for you eventually, really.
