the meaning of life: a playlist
Dream Somehow [Oingo Boingo]
Come to the rescue now
Come with a mission and come with a broken heart
Life is a dream somehow
Life is a dream and our lives are a world apart
Further On (Up the Road) [Bruce Springsteen]
If there's a light up ahead, well, brother, I don't know,
But I got this fever burnin' in my soul.
So let's take the good times as they go,
And I'll meet you further on up the road.
The Revolution Starts Now [Steve Earle]
The revolution starts now,
When you rise above your fear
And tear the walls around you down.
The revolution starts here.
Everybody Says Don't [Liz Callaway]
Everybody says don't,
Everybody says don't,
Everybody says don't get out of line.
When they say that then, lady, that's a sign:
Nine times out of ten,
Lady, you are doing just fine!
As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are
If you can believe there's something worth fighting for.
The color of an eye, the glory of a sudden view,
The baby in your arms, the smile he always shoots at you.
Ana Ng [They Might Be Giants]
Ana Ng and I are getting old,
And we still haven't walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence.
Listen, Ana, hear my words:
They're the ones you would think I would say if there was a me for you.
Signal to Noise [Peter Gabriel]
And in this place, can you reassure me
With a touch, a smile, while the cradle's burning?
All the while the world is turning to noise.
No One Is Alone [Mandy Patinkin]
You move just a finger,
Say the slightest word,
Something's bound to linger,
No one acts alone.
Careful: no one is alone.
Night Vision [Suzanne Vega]
When the darkness takes you
With her hand across your face,
Don't give in too quickly;
Find the thing she's erased.
Lullaby [Assemblage 23]
And if ever fate should choose to smite you,
Stand your ground, never walk away.
Please don't ever let the world defeat you,
Don't get buried in its decay.
To the Dancers in the Rain [Émilie Simon]
If my words are not that clear,
I know my heart is understanding
Every little kiss of you.
Shine [Vienna Teng]
In this desert how
We blossom and we cease.
Tell your story now;
We have so much to know.
Being Alive [Bernadette Peters]
Somebody hold me too close,
Somebody force me to care.
Somebody make me come through,
I'll always be there,
As frightened as you
Of being alive...
[A zip of everything]
bonus song: Being Alive [Original Broadway Cast of Company]
Because as much as I love Bernadette Peters's version, you lose a lot of the symbolic and emotional nuance of the original in it. The transition from "someone to ____ you" to "somebody ____ me" is important, dammit.
There's a disproportionate amount of Sondheim on that list. I wonder what that says about me. No, I don't think I want to know. I've uploaded and shared several of the above songs before, because they're among my favorites, but you'll take the repost and like it.
Things I want to do before NYAF:
--Finish the Simon/Nia essay (and with it at least one of my two planned Simon/Nia fanfics).
--Get my Gwendolyn application in at stoppedtrains.
--Work on an application for sigillums.
--Read the driver's manual. Sob.
Does anyone know if the latter half of After School Nightmare has been scanlated? From what I've heard, it hasn't, and while I hardly care to know more about Sou, I really want to see more Kureha.
